Monsters still dancing in our fairy land Swat

Th fairly land like valley of Swat  was once the hub of tourism industry in Pakistan but now world is  seeing it as a  war zone where even  children are being picked to kill by trained terrorist and whole state is seeing it as dumped and handicapped force of a country which is in state of war for last 12 years. When Swat was voluntarily merged into Pakistan in 1979, it was more peaceful than other regions of Pakistan because it was urbanized. Mingora  had a well-established silk industry. When Swat joined Pakistan it had the highest literacy rate, particularly among women.People benefited from a good economy, as tourism gradually turned into an industry along with other cottage industries.

The early signs of this crises appeared in Oct 2005 when several formally banned Jihadist outfits infiltrated in the area under the premise of relief efforts. In the early 1990s, local cleric  Sufi Mohd started a movement called Tehreek-e Nifaz-e Shariat-e Muhammadi movement for the implementation of Muhammad’s Shari’a.But after the U.S. attacks against the Taliban and Al-Qaeda] in Afghanistan, many of his followers  under Sufi Mohd went to Afghanistan to wage jihad. Many of them never returned but  that old cleric was returned  and further continued his instigating plus recruiting  mission. Due to intentional or unintentional negligence of government and weakened state’s  writ  local population supported that movement, as it was supposed to be peaceful and on the name of Islam.

The regular  phase of militancy began with an FM radio station. Maulana Fazal ullah , the leader of the Taliban in Swat and his friends used their FM radio to mobilize people and spread their message. Some downtrodden classes found his message of Islamic justice appealing the less literate class. Other people from the eastern Pakistani province of Punjab and elsewhere also joined that movement. It gradually turned into an armed insurgency.Over the next two years these militants were able to gain strength due to preoccupation of government in South Waziristan and other tribal Areas. The geo strategic importance of this region should be kept in mind as the only ground link to China and the possibility of this region as a ground link between India and Afghanistan is a factor that cannot be ignored when we analyze the involvement of foreign hands in Swat and FATA.

Furthermore the social and economical  problems for the local population were compounded by slow rehabilitation process and destruction of the tourism industry that was the major source of income for the majority .Failure of fake  government of MMA had deepened the  crisis  along with  the start of military operation by  the displacement of 1.5 million people who have lost everything they owned and  were become refugees in their own country.Musharraf for saving his soul highly ignored this area and started this war campaign during the caretaker government in November 2007.  Lack of justice, corruption of government institutions and lawlessness further compounded these problems. In this state of affairs people like Fazlullah were able to gain popularity in the eyes of people who were already facing ideological alienation from the center due to ongoing war on terror against the people by its own army.

Here again the blame was shifted to the  part of government, questions still need to be answered that where were the intelligence agencies at the time when such groups were tearing the writ of state by strengthening themselves with all kind of modern weapons ?

Why did the government do nothing to stop infiltration of weapons and foreign elements in the area when even the media had started giving hints of the worsening situation in the area .The poor people of Swat didn’t see any  kind of  reinforcement of  militia and police forces in the area well in time when their personnel were being abducted everyday and it was clear that government  forces will not be able to deal with better equipped militants?

The Musharraf careless or carefree  policy  only  worked to isolate the militants but the cost of this policy had to be paid by the innocent people of the valley. Destruction of families and social infrastructure  have provided the militants with fertile recruiting grounds. The Taliban of Swat now spread in different pockets  still  instigating the  landless peasants to rise up against the  khans who hold fertile lands of Swat. In a documentary for Al Jazeera(by Rageh Omar) the Army Brigadier states that the Taliban were immensely popular among the landless tenants and were being financed with jewelry etc donations by supporters. TNSM was holding the largest rallies in Swat history.

Malala Yousafzai injured

After 5 year of massive military operation the fairyland has  still  shown us the scene of horror and terror  and  last day daylight shooting of  A brave daughter of Swat ,Malala is self explanatory that where people is still living in mirage of peace that is all time  claimed by security forces many times in last years. This attack simply means that our forces  are still unable to clear that area that has almost dozen of security check posts and how easy it is for insurgent to do what they want and then flee safe from that area.

Now all establishment is running to save the soul of little girl whose presence there  is just like the candle in the wind .

Neither General kiyani(extended Chief) nor Rehman malik is ready to take the irresponsibility of such cowardly attack but still brain washing us as per habit that this war is compulsory for us and will continue until?? I am sure inside they want to die all of us like that as they , their spouses and children live in VIP security which are even not in dreams of brave little girl Malala. After seeing such kind of filthy leadership it is not clear  from which kind of dirty  mud Allah has made conscious of our ruling elite who never come forward to take the responsibility of this event as national crime but all time ready to declare war in our land where they enjoy they most secured environment.

Presently, the plight of the people of Swat  is not being highlighted as it should have been but Malala’s  murder plan has shown us real picture and clear apprehensions about  future of this area. There is  still need of social and moral rehabilitation programs other than Military -civilian friendship scenes. It is  proved social law that  poor regions that are isolated from the global community in terms of education, communication and commerce are the most fertile breeding grounds of terror networks. Making lies about real situation or failure  to initiate economic development  in destroyed valley surely culminate in victory of fundamentalist networks in this region. It is the need of the time to understand this that economy, welfare and development not military actions are the key to winning the war on terror bringing peace to this region.

I would say just bring a system of justice and leave things on a free market means let people run their businesses without red tapism, bhatta, illicit taxes, quotas or licenses then you will see that inshaAllah things will change quickly. Pakistan has enough natural resources, strategic location and a good sized population which are required to progress quickly. Also we are an agricultural country and our energy demands can be filled if natural resources are used properly so we are not as such dependent on others if we get rid of “so called our” corrupt ruling elite.

I have added a missing word thanks for pointing it
I have lot of doubts about her as if it was injury like we heard then there is very little chance of her survival and her shifting to AFIC again support my point .Or as it looked that she had no life supporting system which is mandatory for such kind of head injury so might be she got narrowly escaped but trying to be pose serious for creating media attention toward their favor.but we have to wait befor drawing any final conclusion
You know in 1970, 80s swat, chitral and gilgit were one of peaceful areas of the Pakistan where hardly cases were registered on criminal bases.Just few matters of common feuds which were resolved on early stage. This mess was started after Afghan infiltration in our soil and sociology of these areas started changing in faster rates .
The peace of these areas are some how ignored or I can also say intentionally disturbed as I have already mentioned about its geopolitical positions which has become prominent after spreading of warriors in the region.Pak military played important role in all this mess and corrupt political govt somehow acted like coward pigeons or might be bribed to shut their eyes that what mess was being scattered there.

These areas including Swat,FATA etc are kind of semi-autonomous regions and they became part of Pakistan through some agreements. I think that army used this war on terror to invade these areas and for that they needed some reasons like chaos and terrorism. After all they only love that Pakistan which is under their boots.

There is one other lesson we can learn from Swat operation. In 2006 I went to the area with my friends. We offered prayers in different mosques (belonging to Jud, Fazlullah etc). We had people from different sects like Shia, Sunni or non-taqleedis but no one in the mosque bothered to question our different ways of praying and everyone was normal about it. Similarly there were tourists with different social-class backgrounds and dressed up like the way they do in Karachi, Islamabad etc and no one bothered to question their dresses. Things started to go bad in the area when Army demolished the local structure which created vacuum for these groups to take over and especially when Lal-Masjid operation was conducted (The operation itself was sectarian fascism backed) , it gave a message to the people that there ways are in danger now and so they went on to the path of extremism. Its very easy for us to consider others as evil aliens and point fingers at them but to resolve a problem, an honest analysis is required to see where it all started and where the root cause lies. Swat, Tribal areas etc were promised that their autonomy will remain in tact if they join Pakistan but Army on various occasions from 60s violated these agreements and started to meddle in there affairs especially in Musharraf’s time they deliberately targeted their religious schools and institutions. It seems that army used this war not only to bag dollars from Americans but also to pursue their old goal of invading these tribal areas because they seem to love only that Pakistan which is under their boots otherwise they will do another Bangladesh with that part of the country like they are also doing with Balochistan.

Due to geo political importance one can think on this ground but here come the responsibility of local political Representatives who should had come forward to save the sovereignty and purity of this area which was unique in 1950s.You are quite true that it is mentality of army management ,who ever is on seat these duffers want to slaughter a golden laying hen instead of waiting for planned good times .so this short cut of ruling surely comes from military mater-minded groups but here again comes the weakness of local political people who should have grouped together to safe their land and culture from such dirty games. But they let sufi mohd like abnormal being to lead them to ditch of backwardness as their ring leader.

      • united4justice says:

Demands of Sharia or the legal system which was there in pre-partition times, are not new ones and in fact it was part of the assurances given to them by Pakistani govt. at that time. If you see their demand and see how this colonial legacy pathetic and slow justice system works under thanedar culture then it was not a bad demand especially at the time when there was military dictatorship with no respect for its own constitution. They blamed Sufi Muhmammad for criticizing the constitution but what about those who attack it directly?

      • Nazia says:

If i say I am unaware of the demands of locals but what is my obseravtion about that area that they want to live as per their own traditions but I think after jihad war army establishment via religious groups spread their network there to get the army of illegitimate soldiers whom should have been sent to proxies war as per demand of Saudis and US.We have already witnessed this human supply chain for Bosnia and then in Afghanistan and here the conflict started. But again local stronger groups ignored their obligations and got aligned with military tactics and we are seeing what are its aftereffects in valley of swat.

    • Malik says:

Pakistan as a state deserves this as it has not learnt a lesson as yet from its 71 debacle. Perhaps this may be the last time Pakistan re-corrects itself to live in peace with itself first and then with its neighbours. This is year 2012; people are more populous than ever before. Discontentment is on the rise. Pakistan is again going around with a begging bowl. Neighbouring countries are once again meddling there though their own internal religious tolerances is pathetic and are well known. Western powers are within Pakistan to rule the roost. Just watch and wait. The spoils will be there for the taking. Three decades of violence instigated in Kashmir from across the LOC is there undoing too. Now they are persuading wars in other areas too in more violnet manners. They would continue till they destroy thier homeland

Nations even survived after world wars and nuclear attacks.Only need of real will and kill the wrongs Surely at this moment we are deficient in it to rise our status from typical mind set but for me me hope margin exists all the time .Nobody knows when things start changing towards good,

The problem is that local structure was demolished as it didnt fit into the imperialist mindset of the army. Confrontation started between tribes and army since the time of Ayub Khan. But Mushi and later Kiyani/Zardari made it worse.

I use real name or real blog name.most of my email ids are somehow associated with wordpress so every time i comment i ve to enter login/password. I thought u r brilliant enough to guess who is commenting.

i usually catch if there are two ids but same person is commenting (no need to give an example)

  8. Nazia says:

Yes I try me best to get your hide and seek game ‘s clues but never try to copy it. My style is just opposite to what you play games in net world.

  9. faisal says:

always looking for a conspiracy. hide and seek? why should i play that? i simply save time for not entering login/password. sometimes when i am logged in, i use that account.

if you want to get a conspiracy or some hide and seek game out of it then its ur choice. in fact it will be a bit fun thing for me that someone is getting paranoid just because i used different email ids or just some xyz type id with actual name and often own website address to comment.

  10. Nazia says:

paranoid!! who gets such feelings nothing like that in my mind but what I strongly feel that this way one loses his/her authenticity while doing it but I think by nature or by professional some people inclined to do it like that as in your case.

  11. faisal says:

ok you can remain happy by thinking like that 🙂 i gave my reason and there is no reason to explain it again 😀

    • Nazia says:

No it is not matter of my happy mood nor I am interested in any kind of reasoning as I am quite firm about some people or groups who enjoy making fool others by all available means to them. They consider others’ simplicity or straightforwardness as kind of foolishness or low IQ.Surely there is no reasoning of all this and we have to enjoy all types of human nature around us.

        You can read this report
London, Sept 9 : A survey has found that people are nearly as likely to be web criminals as to be victims of them, with a large amount of dishonesty coming from the respondents themselves.

The behavioural and psychological impacts of online life outlined in a report from the security firm Norton, said more than a quarter of people online have lied about their name and more than one in five has done something online they regret.

The report suggests that two-thirds of web users have been hit by cybercrime, with the costs and time to resolve the crime varying widely around the world.

Seventeen percent of respondents to Norton’s survey had lied online about their age or where they live, while nine percent lied about their financial or relationship status, all more than the fraction that lied about their appearance.

The study, “Norton Cybercrime Report: The Human Impact”, reveals telling details not only about the proportion of web users struck by cybercrime, but the disparity among countries as to the costs to each cybercrime victim.

More telling perhaps are the attitudes of survey respondents with regard to the ethics of their own behaviour.

Many felt it was “legal” to download a music track, album, or film without paying (17,14 and 15 percent respectively), and 17 percent view plagiarism as an acceptable practice.

Nearly a third had e-mailed or posted pictures of someone else without permission, and a quarter had secretly viewed someone else’s browsing history.

Orla Cox, a security operations manager for Symantec, said that she was unsurprised about the survey’s findings on the respondents’ honesty.

“A lot of people, while they want to get information about other people on the web, they themselves would like to remain somewhat anonymous, to hide some of their own information so as to be not too easily identifiable on the web,” the BBC quoted her as saying.

“I don’t think it’s always a bad thing but certainly people are trying to create a whole different identity for themselves for nefarious purposes,” she added. (ANI)

So you read some news item and applied it where it is applicable or not. keep doing it if it looks ok to you. I can apply a lot of theories on this practice but I don’t think I want to because the topic has already been dragged a lot more than its usefulness. I use my real name or my real blog name (like it or not). My name is same on facebook (don’t want to mention who does this). I dont use other person’s name to comment which you did when you commented on my blog first time and said it was accidental and it was some of your relative’s email id and i trusted on your words because i dont really care who is commenting unless someone is spamming for some ad campaigns of some useless things. I often don’t write my emails because the reason I mentioned above and its ok for me (what others think, its their headache).

    • Nazia says:

You think I rely only on such news data or have no personal observation in this regard??It is not once or twice but many times my family members or friends try to use my IP addr and my ID at my blog or others active on my pc to give comments and I had to delete it as I don’t want to create confusions. My real ID in any blog is my true identity in real life and only in face book i got odd name as my family member showed me how it works but as it didn’t impress me so I dont follow it and I am sure that I have told you same when you first given me message on it.Ok
surely nothing to waste more time on this
      .

  13. faisal says:

The only thing I would like to say is that if you want to live in the happy world of paranoid people then you have the free option to do so but don’t expect that it will do any good.

    • Nazia says:

paranoid people have happy world who told you??
our swat valley is still in control of these paranoid groups and there people live in fear of insecurity only.So luckily I have complete peace of mind in my real world so nothing to worry

      • Malik says:

Taleban have been waiting for the army to go back to barracks and to return back to valley with business as usual.Pak army has ot effectively destroyed the back bone of Taleban so far and its infrastructure is still intact with them too, to hit back. This is the reason Malala case was given life to attract world’s attraction

      • Nazia says:

TTP or so called terrorists who first come forward to take all kind of responsibility are aligned with Pak army and ready to attack any where any time so no confusion in our mind that our enemies are living inside us and we cant distinguish them.
